LOST Season 6 Countdown

4 8 15 16 23 42.

While the world counts down the days to the New Year, a smaller part of the world’s population has been patiently counting down the days to something larger than 2010: the final season of LOST.

Time travel. Religious undertones. Paradoxes. Destiny. An Island Spirit. All these things and more have come to the forefront of the LOST mythos. Now, it’s time for Damon Lindelof, Jeffrey Lieber and of course J.J. Abrams to make good on five years of loyal viewing from the fans.

Numerous rumours questions surround the season 6 finale. Is John Locke still Locke? What will be the final fate of war between Benjamin Linus (Michael Emerson) and Charles Widmore (Alan Dale)? Will the survivors of Oceanic 815 ever be able to find their way back to mainstream life or will they be destined to live out their last days on the Island?

Mikhail Mystery To Be Solved

Mikhail with EyepatchRemember Mikhail Bakunin? I’m sure you do. He was the one-eyed Other who simply wouldn’t die. That is, of course, until he blew himself up with a grenade, blowing a hole in the side of the Looking Glass and drowning Charlie Pace, though blowing himself to bits in the process.

We never really find out why the character, dubbed by fans as “Patchy,” came to wear that defining patch. In fact, all we really know about his missing eye is that he’s got some massive scarring over his right eye, but that’s all. We don’t know whether it was ripped out by the smoke monster or jabbed out by a billiards stick.

Well, for those of you who have been losing sleep over the possibility that this mystery will never be solved, you can rest easy now. You have Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly to thank for this bit of news.

LOST Gets 3-Hour Series Finale

As the premiere of ABC’s hit mystery/ drama LOST draws ever closer, more and more promos for it have been popping up all over the place (the Spanish “chessboard” one was fantastic). But to the annoyance of many people, the promos don’t feature a lick of new footage… none… nada… zip! Why’s that? Well, I imagine it’s to keep everyone in suspense as much as possible and to keep them guessing as to what the premiere of the sixth and final season will be like.

It’s a good strategy, in my eyes.

We’ve already learned that the season 6 premiere will be a 3-hour event consisting of one recap episode to get all the major events of the show fresh in our minds, and then we’ll be hit with the all-important 2-hour premiere. So that’s the premiere sorted out – but what of the series finale?

48 Days Until Final Season Begins

That’s how long we have to wait until the final season of “LOST” begins on Feb. 2.

Last Friday, I talked to “LOST” executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse for more than an hour, and I’ll publish a complete transcript of our conversation in a few weeks. I especially can’t wait for you to read the part about the Ewoks.

No, there will not be Ewoks in Season 6 of “LOST.” At least I don’t think there will be. Cuse and Lindelof, in keeping with their strict Season 6 anti-spoiler policy, didn’t offer any plot specifics regarding Season 6 (nor did I ask for any, given my own policy on Season 6).

But we did discuss the nature of endings, the importance of both supplying answers and allowing mysteries to exist, the weight of expectations as “LOST” draws to a close and the prospect of Lindelof and Cuse going off and doing different things for a while after the show ends.
